Each season, New York Fashion Week sets the tone not just for wardrobes, but for how we wear our hair and makeup in the year to come.  Fall/Winter 2026 was no exception: a season that bridged cinematic glamour, expressive individuality and practical creativity.  In these shows, hair and makeup didn’t merely “compliment” clothing, they amplified the designer’s narrative, offering a backstage look at how beauty can reinforce mood, era and attitude.

This year’s aesthetic was bold, artistic and playful, with makeup going big (dramatic eyes, romantic blush, metallic pops and expressive line work), while hair alternated between undone, lived-in texture and architectural statements.  Many looks nodded to nostalgia (the ‘60s, ‘90s and early 2000s revival), while others pushed editorial boundaries that, over time, will make their way into salons, digital filters and street-style repertoires.

PRABAL GURUNG

The beauty at Prabal Gurung this season was designed to echo the collection’s themes of resilience, dual cultural identity and introspection.  Rather than pulling focus from the garments, makeup and hair acted as extensions of the story on the runway by subtly enhancing movement, facial contours and emotional resonance of each look.

This aligns with broader Fall 2026 runway beauty themes seen across NYFW:  makeup that enhances natural skin glow, selective shimmer accents and hairstyles that range from undone confidence to refined polish rather than perfectly styled uniformity.

MARC JACOBS

At the Marc Jacobs show, known for its mix of avant-garde theater and wearable fantasy, beauty struck a memorable balance between bold experimentation and classic rules.  Makeup artist Thomas de Kluyver led the beauty team backstage with the concept of bold lips or bold eyes, but not both.

Some models debuted super-dark, vampy lips with virtually no eye makeup.  Others sported graphic eyeliner or bright, unexpected shadow hues, creating dramatic eyes against an otherwise bare complexion.

Hair echoed the subtle drama:  sleek middle parts or soft, low ponytails set with Oribe products.

This duality (restraint paired with statement) distilled a look that’s both runway-worthy and surprisingly translatable to real life.

SANDY LIANG

One of this season’s most talked about beauty narratives came from Sandy Liang, where the makeup celebrated luxe ease.  This concept might seem counterintuitive in the manic world of fashion week but felt refreshingly effortless.  Makeup artist Romy Soleimani created what was dubbed “sleepy girl” makeup – a polished, lived-in look reminiscent of having just woke up feeling refreshed and rosy.

Soft blush was applied with a gleaming texture.  Softly drawn rings of brown-red eyeliner helped give the eyes definition without harsh precision.

Before makeup, models underwent a mini K-beauty skincare prep using Beauty of Joseon products.

This aesthetic (radiant skin, diffused color and an overall fresh yet intentional vibe) is already being adopted by beauty creators on TikTok and Instagram as the next evolution of the “clean girl” and “coquette” trends.

COLLINA STRADA

The Collina Strada presentation was titled “The World Is a Vampire” and leaned into a mood that was dramatic, textured and expressive.  Beauty wasn’t just an accessory; it was part of the show’s emotional tone.  Rather than polished, minimal makeup, the approach embraced texture, depth and a lived-in aesthetic across both hair and makeup, giving the models a striking presence that worked in harmony with the design narrative.

Lead hairstylist, Mustafa Yanaz injected teased and textural styles with sculptural extensions and wigs for a messy “lived-in” movement rather than sleek polished styling that gave a raw, emotional edge that aligned with the collection’s deeper theme.  Products from bumble and bumble were used to support the body and structure of these looks.

CHRISTIAN COWAN

Christian Cowan’s show featured beauty that centered on glossy, retro side-parted hair that was smooth and expertly set, reminiscent of classic elegance.  The model’s skin looked polished but still natural, with an emphasis on a healthy, glowing complexion rather than heavy contouring.

Makeup artist Lori Taylor Davis paired minimal foundation with subtle definition and soft blending using Smashbox products that created a vibe that felt both artistic and relaxed.  The marriage between the healthy skin, softly diffused makeup and polished hairstyles felt both timeless and wearable.

SERIGO HUDSON

The Sergio Hudson show celebrated its 10th anniversary at the New York Public Library.  The beauty looks were a master class in “opera-level glamour”.  Lead makeup artist Sir John took inspiration from the late 1940s and early 1950s – specifically icons like Sophia Loren and the legendary Black opera singer Leontyne Price.  The makeup was designed to look “big, beautiful and lifted” from skin that was hydrated, plump and dewy to elongated liquid liner in deep black.

Hairstylist Diego Miranda echoed the collection’s focus on structure and discipline with the models wearing sleek, high-shine buns and chignons that complimented the sharply tailored silhouettes.  The hair team used KeraCare products to maintain silkiness and tame flyaways, ensuring every strand stayed in place.

Many shows embraced natural texture and expressions of individuality, rejecting rigid expectations of polished perfection.  Across NYFW, patterns emerged that pointed to a more personal form of beauty storytelling.

HAIR TRENDS

  • Messy, Undone Styles

A repeated motif was hair worn with intentional flyaways, loose parts or light texture.  This reflected a style direction that’s as wearable as it is editorial.  It’s the kind of look that doesn’t have to be fussed over before heading out the door.

  • Swoops and Soft Parts

Both low, natural parts and deep, decisive side parts added character without over-styling.  This trend

MAKEUP

  • Glass Blush, Glowing Skin and Sheer Lips

Many designers favored fresh, radiant skin with strategic emphasis on cheek and inner eye highlights.  Cupid’s bow glow and glass blush effects took center stage as alternatives to heavy contouring.

  • Smoky and Graphic Lines

Bold eyeliner and shaded lids made a comeback, where smoky, dramatic or graphic line work defined the eyes while the rest of the face remained soft and minimal.

  • Blurred, Natural Lips

Rather than sharply lined lips, many models wore unlined, blurred color.  This trend was inspired by effortless beauty and embraced by brands designing new balm-to-color formulas.

The above trends are already showing up on beauty blogs and influencer reels as “looks to try now”.  This demonstrates how quickly runway cues can accelerate mainstream interest.

While the runway will always be a place for high theatricality and expressive fantasy, every generation of beauty trends eventually trickles down into public consciousness.  Extreme experimentation on today’s runways often becomes everyday vogue tomorrow.  Ultimately, NYFW invents the language of these fashion and beauty looks, but it’s the everyday wearer who gives that language life.

Virtue: Your healthy hair fix https://www.ecosmetics.com/blog-your-healthy-hair-fix-for-every-concern/ Tue, 17 Feb 2026 15:54:57 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5796183

Hair damage is inevitable.  Heat styling, chemical treatments and environmental stress are all factors that can weaken hair causing it to become dry, brittle and dull.  What’s not inevitable is having to live with it.  Enter Virtue Labs Hair Care. The go-to brand that has earned its reputation to radically improve the health, quality and appearance of hair, making it stronger, smoother and more resilient.  Developed with a singular goal to repair hair using cutting-edge science and a protein technology designed to mimic hair’s natural structure, Virtue creates healthier strands from the inside out.  Instead of masking damage with heavy coatings or temporary shine, Virtue focuses on rebuilding hair at the structural level, delivering results you can see and feel with every wash.

Virtue Labs was launched in 2017 by beauty industry veteran, Melisse Shaban with the goal of creating haircare products that actually repair damaged hair rather than simply masking the problem.  Many shampoos and conditioners focus on temporary smoothness and shine by using silicones and coatings that conceal damage without strengthening hair from within.  The team at Virtue wanted to go further by creating formulas that heal hair at the structural level, resulting in healthier strands that look and feel better long-term.

To achieve this, they searched for a scientifically proven ingredient that could repair hair’s internal structure.  Their research led to a breakthrough discovery:  a unique approach to harnessing the protein alpha-keratin, which is the foundation for the brand’s clinically proven repair technology.  It is a patented, human-derived keratin protein that is highly active and designed to bind directly to areas of damage in the hair shaft.  It works in conjunction with other ingredients to provide maximum efficacy, whether that is for volume, repair or moisture.  This signature ingredient is present in every Virtue product across all lines.

At its core, Virtue Haircare’s mission centers on repair, resilience and restoring hair’s natural strength.  Rather than relying on surface-level quick fixes, Virtue designs products with ingredients and technologies that repair internal damage, maintain long-term hair health, improve overall strength and texture and deliver salon-worthy results at home.

This isn’t just marketing hyperbole, as Virtue’s formulas are rooted in real science.  Unlike many haircare brands that lean heavily on fragrance or aesthetic appeal, Virtue invests in patented technologies and clinically supported ingredients that deliver measurable benefits.

There are three major elements that set Virtue apart in the haircare world:

  • Alpha-Keratin 60ku

Virtue’s star ingredient is Alpha-Keratin 60ku, a form of keratin that’s nearly identical to the keratin found in human hair.  Keratin is a structural protein in hair.  Damage from heat, chemical treatments and environmental stress can break down keratin.  Virtue’s formulation is designed to integrate with hair’s natural structure, repairing weak, damaged areas from the inside out.  Unlike many keratin-infused products that sit on the surface, Alpha-Keratin 60ku works within the hair shaft, helping restore strength and elasticity.

  • Clean, Thoughtful Formulations

While Virtue doesn’t claim to be 100% natural, it emphasizes clean, purposeful ingredients.  Their formulas avoid unnecessary silicones or fillers that temporarily coat hair but don’t improve its health.  They also use gentle surfactants that effectively cleanse without stripping and include botanical extracts with conditioning agents that support hydration and manageability.  This combination makes Virtue suitable for many hair types from dry and brittle to color-treated or curly.

  • Performance You Can Feel & See

Virtue products are designed for real results.  Users often report:

  • Softer, smoother texture after just a few uses
  • Better manageability and reduced frizz
  • Improved strength and reduced breakage
  • Longer-lasting styles with healthier appearance

These performance benefits are why stylists frequently recommend Virtue as part of professional treatment plans.

How Cynthia Erivo gets her wicked glow https://www.ecosmetics.com/blog-how-cynthia-erivo-gets-her-wicked-glow/ Fri, 13 Feb 2026 16:27:24 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5788764

Cynthia Erivo’s glow is the kind that reads both on camera and up close in person: luminous, hydrated and stunningly gorgeous.  The British-Nigerian actress-singer has gone from powerhouse stage performances to awards-season red carpets and blockbuster leading roles.  Along the way, she has developed a beauty approach that’s as careful and considered as her craft: skin first, then makeup that enhances rather than masks.

Born in Stockwell, London on January 8, 1987, Erivo trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and rose to international prominence after starring on stage, most notably in The Color Purple on Broadway.  From there, she moved into acclaimed film roles (including Harriet and more recently, Wicked).  She’s earned a Tony, Grammy and Daytime Emmy in addition to being nominated for major film awards.  That trajectory put her in the position of needing beauty that works under stage lights, for personal appearances and on camera.  It has also given her the opportunity to use her voice to champion for representation in beauty.  She is candid about carrying her own beauty products and ensuring makeup artists are properly prepared for darker skin tones.

Erivo emphasizes a “skin first” beauty philosophy.  For her, makeup is way to celebrate skin, not cover it.  This has two practical consequences in her routine: (1) a thorough cleansing and hydration ritual, often including micellar water and hydrating serums, and (2) tools and targeted treatments (like microcurrent devices) that prioritize skin tone, lift and texture so foundation applies like a second skin.

Erivo has become known for her warm, monochromatic, brown-based makeup palette of chestnuts, chocolates and bronzes which she and her makeup artists describe as flattering to her skin for everything from editorial to stage.  She has referenced mixing and layering products from major brands like Dior and NARS to match and highlight her complexion rather than flatten it.  Layering slightly different tones helps replicate the natural variances in skin tone.

She recently fronted Clinique’s Nude Honey campaign and has worn Clinique Moisture Surge products on red carpets, highlighting a minimalist, skin-glow approach and products that double as color and skincare.

For the 2025 Tony Awards, her makeup artist, Joanna Simkin used K-beauty brand, Tirtir’s cushion foundations for a dewy, blended finish.  She used two shades to achieve dimension.  This reflects Erivo’s willingness to embrace new, viral beauty brands when they deliver a skin-first result.

Erivo often uses brown lip pencils (sometimes doubled as soft eyeliners) topped with multiple glosses to create depth and sheen rather than flat color on her pout.  Her glam team favors fluttery false lashes and subtle bronzing/contouring that follow her natural bone structure to amplify her features without heavy theatricality.

Takeaways from Cynthia Erivo’s beauty routine:

  1. Prep skin

Use micellar water or a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, followed by hydration.  It’s the difference between makeup sitting on the skin and looking like skin.

  • Blend two foundation tones

Use a lighter, more neutral shade of foundation for the center of the face and a slightly deeper tone for the perimeter.  This is a technique Joanna Simkin uses on Erivo for event makeup to mimic natural depth.

  • Carry a brown pencil

A warm chestnut pencil is multi-purpose.  It can be used for lining lips, subtle eye definition and even soft contouring.

  • Bring your own basics if you’re deeper toned

Erivo carries a couple of failsafe products that keep her in control when makeup artists are not prepared with the right shades.

Cynthia Erivo’s take on beauty is anchored in experience.  Her younger self stopped trusting that makeup artists always had the right tools for darker skin tones.  This shaped how she prepares now – informed, firm and collaborative.  Her beauty routine is practical and political in a quiet way.  It’s not about chasing trends, but rather investing in skin health, choosing warm, enhancing color stories and working with products that respect her tone and texture.  It’s about ensuring her face is treated as the complex, nuanced canvas it is.

Below are some skincare and makeup products used regularly by Cynthia Erivo and her glam team to help her achieve and maintain her wicked glow.

Skincare

Makeup

If you are looking to emulate Cynthia Erivo’s edgy glam for a special occasion or just want a more luminous everyday look, follow her routine using some of the above products:  hydrate thoroughly, treat the skin, simplify color choices to warm browns and chestnuts, and opt for subtle layers that create depth rather than heavy coverage.

Shiseido: 150 years of beauty https://www.ecosmetics.com/blog-shiseido-150-years-of-japanese-beauty-innovation/ Thu, 05 Feb 2026 21:19:28 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5773112

If there is one beauty house that comfortably bridges “time-honored” and “cutting -edge”, it’s Shiseido.  Founded in 1872, Shiseido has grown from Japan’s first Western-style pharmacy into a global luxury cosmetics company known for fusing Eastern philosophy with Western science.  Continue reading to discover how Shiseido has stood the test of time and why it is still relevant today.

Shiseido’s story starts in Ginza, Tokyo, when Arinobu Fukuhara opened a Western-style pharmacy in 1872.  Fukuhara’s goal wasn’t just to sell medicine; he wanted to bring scientific, modern pharmaceutical care to Japan and improve people’s lives through better products.  Over the decades Shiseido expanded from pharmaceuticals into cosmetics and perfumery, meshing scientific research with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic sensibility.  This balance of function and refinement has been central to the brand ever since.

There are many reasons skincare fans and makeup pros tout Shiseido’s performance, effectiveness and results:

  • Long history + research infrastructure.  More than a century of formulation science and Research & Development (R&D) labs gives Shiseido the resources to innovate sensibly.
  • East-meets-West formulation philosophy.  Shiseido blends Japanese botanical wisdom and sensory elegance (textures/fragrances) with active ingredients validated by modern science.  This combination feels luxurious and performs effectively.
  • Tech-driven product claims that actually work.  From patented serum technologies to sunscreen systems that strengthen when they get wet, Shiseido invests in distinct, demonstratable innovations.
  • Range and accessibility.  Shiseido spans mass and prestige sub-brands, so the brand can serve everyday skin needs and luxury rituals alike.

Taken together these elements explain why dermatologists, beauty editors and everyday consumers often gravitate toward Shiseido products: they fuse sensorial experience with noticeable results.

Below are 5 Shiseido skincare, makeup and haircare products that are prime examples of the above described.

Skincare

Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate

A best-selling treatment serum that’s marketed as a “skin strengthener” to boost resilience and the effectiveness of the rest of your skincare routine.  It’s been heavily promoted and widely repurchased for its ability to improve texture, radiance and the skin’s barrier performance.

Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream

A targeted eye cream formulated with peptides, squalane and botanical extracts that addresses multiple types of wrinkles and under-eye concerns.  It is one of Shiseido’s top selling eye treatments that hydrates, smooths and layers well under makeup.

Eudermine Revitalizing Essence

A classic Shiseido product often described as a hydrating essence or “softener” that preps skin for serums and moisturizers.  It’s lightweight, comforting and a beloved part of many multi-step J-beauty routines.

Vital Perfection Uplifting & Firming Cream

Shiseido’s advanced anti-aging cream focused on lifting, brightening and firming the complexion. Ideal for those looking for clinical anti-aging benefits in a luxe formula.

Ultimate Sun Protector Cream

Shiseido’s hydrating face sunscreen is famous for WetForce/HeatForce technologies that improve and strengthen protection when exposed to heat or water.  This makes it a top pick for outdoor activities or simple, reliable daily sun care.  It’s lightweight, water-resistant and widely reviewed as one of the better “active” sunscreens on the market.

Makeup

Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation

A hero product from Shiseido’s Synchro Skin line.  This foundation uses “ActiveForce” technology to adapt to skin and environment (24-hour wear and resistance to sweat/humidity).  It’s especially praised for looking natural while lasting through heat and motion.

Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation

If you prefer a luminous, skin-like finish, the Glow/Revitalessence formulas deliver hydrating, light-to-medium coverage with a healthy sheen.  Flattering on many skin types and great for photo-ready but natural looks.

MicroLiner Ink

Shiseido’s liners receive praise for pigmented, precise application and staying power.  Their liquid liners and micro-pens are reliable choices for defined eyes.

Technosatin Gel Lipstick

A lightweight, hydrating lipstick with good color payoff and comfortable wear.  It’s frequently cited as an editor favorite for everyday color that reads polished without feeling heavy.

Eyelash Curler

This cult-favorite eyelash curler gets consistently high marks from makeup artists and editors for design and curling performance.  A small tool that makes a big difference.

Hair

Sublimic Adenovital Shampoo

Part of Shiseido’s salon/pro line, Adenovital is focused on scalp health and combating thinning hair with a multi-step regimen and professional devices for optimal results.  It’s aimed at strengthening hair from the root.

Tsubaki Premium Repair Mask

Shiseido’s Tsubaki consumer line is known for smoothing, shine and frizz control.  Excellent for hair that needs moisture and manageability.

Sublimic Aqua Intensive Treatment

A hair treatment featuring a Double Repair System that deeply hydrates and strengthens strands from within.  Corrects distorted hair shapes caused by chemical treatments or dryness to restore moisture, smoothness and vitality, leaving hair resilient and shiny.

Sublimic Adenovital Scalp Treatment

A scalp treatment designed to revitalize thinning hair by deeply moisturizing the scalp, improving blood flow and creating an optimal environment for healthy, voluminous hair growth.  Ingredients like adenosine, spiny restharrow extract and ginseng extract boost hair’s strength, resilience and shine.

Sublimic Airy Flow Treatment

A rinse-out deep conditioner/mask for unruly, frizzy or wavy hair that uses heat-activated technology to soften, smooth and make hair more manageable, reducing volume for an airy, bouncy and sleek finish.  Works with the heat from styling tools to reshape hair from the inside out while protecting it to maintain style longer.

When choosing among the many Shiseido options, match the product to the concern.  For resilience in a universally flattering serum, choose Ultimune.  Need a sunscreen that won’t fail while active or sweating?  Try Ultimate Sun Protector.  Explore the Benefiance/Vital lines for anti-aging.

Consider fragrance sensitivity.  Shiseido formulas often lean into fragrance and botanicals for a sensory experience.  If your skin is reactive, look for fragrance-free options or patch test in-store.

Weigh Pro vs Consumer lines.  If you want salon-grade scalp/hair solutions, Shiseido Professional lines like Adenovital are more targeted to specific issues.  Their consumer ranges excel at combining sensorial everyday luxury with measurable benefits.

Shiseido’s longevity isn’t just nostalgia, it’s the result of sustained investment in research, an identifiable aesthetic (Japanese refinement), and a willingness to develop signature technologies that solve real problems.  Whether you are new to J-beauty or shopping for a personalized treatment, Shiseido’s wide range of products most certainly offers something to try.

2026 Golden Globes beauty trends https://www.ecosmetics.com/blog-2026-golden-globes-beauty-trends/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 20:54:40 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5744151 The 2026 awards season has officially begun with one of Hollywood’s biggest party nights of the year: the 83rd Annual Golden Globes.  The event celebrates the top achievements in both film and television, and as usual, the parade of A-list star’s couture fashion on the red carpet turned heads.

The predominate color worn to the event was no doubt, black with a vibrant resurgence of bold primary and jewel tones like electric blues, greens and reds not far behind.  The focus was on modern glamour with sleek silhouettes, asymmetric cuts and artistic details like unique textures and brooch accents.  Metallics reigned with shimmer and sequins providing a futuristic touch while complimenting the bold colors and textures.  Daring elements like tasteful cutouts, sheer fabrics and provocative, yet elegant designs pushed boundaries without being vulgar.  Statement accessories like bold jewelry and unique shoes completed these expressive ensembles.

Aside from the fashion, the red carpet also delivered a masterclass in beauty.  This year’s beauty scene embraced a mix of Old Hollywood glamour, modern softness and individualized flair that set the tone for beauty trends in 2026.  Classic bobs and sculptural updos walked beside glossy, skin-focused makeup and bold lipstick statements, demonstrating a red-carpet moment where timeless elegance met expressive artistry.

Some of the beauty trends that dominated the night:

  • Old Hollywood Waves & Bob Revivals
  • Soft, Rosy & “Cloud” Makeup
  • Statement Eyeliner & Smoky Eyes
  • Sculptural Updos & Textured Curls
  • Scent-Infused Hair
  • Dark Dramatic Lip Statements & Pops of Color
  • Deep Side-Parts & Low, Relaxed Updos

Below are 10 of my favorite standout beauty looks from the 83rd Annual Golden Globes red carpet plus some of the hero products used to achieve them:

First time winner for Best Supporting Actress for her role in One Battle After Another, Teyana Taylor wore a floor-length, custom black Schiaparelli gown that featured daring, asymmetrical cutouts and a halter neckline with a trailing scarf.  Her short pixie cut with textured curls was styled by Nikki Nelms using SheaMoisture products like the Coconut Hibiscus Curling Gel Souffle.  Her luminous glow, dramatic, edgy eyes and super shiny ombres lips were created by makeup artist Bella Mayven using Charlotte Tilbury products like the Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil and the Feline Flick Liquid Eyeliner in Panther.

Double nominee Amanda Seyfried looked ethereal in a strapless white Versace gown with a sweetheart neckline paired with a shimmering statement necklace.  Her elegant, sculptural updo was styled by Renato Campora using GHD’s Curve Classic Curl Iron and products from Joico including their Firm Finishing Spray.  Her timeless glam was compliments of Lancôme and Melissa Hernandez who used their L’absolu Rouge Crème Lipstick for her soft, rosy, pink lip color.

Another timelessly elegant look at this year’s Golden Globes was presenter Jennifer Garner in a custom black, beaded, sleeveless Cong Tri gown.  Her ‘90s bouncy supermodel blowout was styled by Adir Abergel with Virtue products such as the Volumizing Primer.  Her classic makeup was by Kara Yoshimoto Bua using Chanel’s Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint in medium Plus for her glowing complexion, Joues Contaste Powder Blush for her soft flush and Rouge Coco Flash Hydrating Vibrant Shine Lip Colour for her natural, glossy pout.

Nominee/presenter Julia Roberts looked forever youthful dressed in a simple, black silk-velvet Armani gown.  She debuted a lighter warm honey blonde hair color in middle-parted, voluminous waves that were styled by her longtime hair artist, Serge Normant.  Her subtle smoky eyes and sculpted makeup was compliments of Genevieve Herr using all Lancôme products, including the Tient Idole Ultra Wear Care & Glow Foundation and the Hypnose Eyeshadow Palette.

Nominee for her role in Only Murders in the Building, Selena Gomez looked sophisticated in Old Hollywood glam with a goth twist wearing a simple, off-the -shoulder, black Chanel gown that showcased a white feathered neckline.  Her soft, gothic makeup featured deep red lips from makeup artist Hung Vanngo’s own line, while the rest of her soft glam was Gomez’s own Rare Beauty.  She wore her hair in a deep, side-parted, wavy bob created by Renato Campora using products from Joico, including the Dream Blowout Thermal Protection Cream and the JoiWhip Firm Hold Designing Foam.

Nominee for her role in Die, My Love, Jennifer Lawrence stunned in a sheer, nude mesh Givenchy gown with vibrant floral appliques.  Her golden blonde locks were styled by Gregory Russell who paired her face-framing bangs with loose, free-flowing, long layers.  Her modern, polished makeup was done by Georgie Eisdell using Christian Dior’s Dior 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette, Diorshow Overvolume Mascara in Overblack and Dior Addict Lip Glow in 012 Rosewood and 001 Pink.

Nominee/presenter Ayo Edebiri channeled Old Hollywood wearing a stunning, off-the-shoulder, floor-length black velvet Chanel gown.  Her bouncy, voluminous bob was styled by Jacob Dillon using Olaplex including the Volumizing Blow Dry Mist. Her makeup was by Ernesto Casillas for Chanel who used the Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow Palette in Tisse Rivoli to create her gorgeous, shimmering, smoky plum eye look.

Nominee for her role in Wicked, Ariana Grande shifted from her “Glinda” era to a darker, more mature vibe, wearing a black, textured, off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown.  She debuted darker hair styled by Alyx Lui in her signature, elegant high ponytail, but updated with her bangs tucked under an intentionally loose section of hair to frame her face.  Michael Anthony applied the fresh-faced, pink makeup from Grande’s own line, R.E.M. Beauty, including the On Your Collar Plumping Lip Gloss.

Nominated for her performance in Hedda, as well as being a presenter, Tessa Thomson shined in a vibrant, strapless, shimmering chartreuse Balenciaga gown with a metallic, scale-like texture.  Hairstylist Lacy Redway used SheaMoisture products to create her long, center-parted, super-glossy waves.  Her soft glam was done by Alex Babsky who kept the focus on her winged upper lash line by using Sisley Paris Phyto Khol Perfect Eyeliner in Black.

Presenter Jennifer Lopez was radiant in a vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer gown from 2003 featuring a high neck, sheer nude tulle base with sparkling brown lace appliques and a dramatic tulle mermaid train.  Her sleek, side-parted, French twist updo was compliments of Chris Appleton and Color Wow products like the Extra Strength Dream Coat for the “glass hair” shine and the Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer with the Style on Steroids Texturizing Spray for lift and body.  Her signature J Lo bronzy glow, sultry smoky eyes and neutral nude lips were applied by longtime makeup artist Scott Barnes.

Say goodbye to the clean girl aesthetic in 2026 https://www.ecosmetics.com/blog-say-goodbye-to-the-clean-girl-aesthetic-in-2026/ Mon, 19 Jan 2026 16:32:57 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5736960

For the better part of the early 2020s, the clean girl aesthetic reigned supreme.  Minimalist makeup looks (dewy skin, barely-there eyes and neutral tones) dominated social media, red carpets and beauty campaigns alike.  People celebrated the “no-makeup makeup” that actually looked like makeup.  But as we step into 2026, that once ubiquitous look feels a little tired.  What was once fresh and effortless now feels predictable, safe and even restrictive.  In its place is a bold, expressive, emotional wave of beauty trends that embrace color, imperfection, texture and experimentation already heading down the pipeline.

The clean girl look was built on simplicity: neutral eyeshadows, natural brows, soft blush and gloss all designed to look effortlessly polished.  But in 2026, beauty has become about personality over perfection.  Instead of hiding behind minimalism, people want statements.  They want color, they want boldness, they want fun, and beauty culture is now catching up.

What to expect in 2026:

  1. Color is Back

Minimal neutral tones are giving way to vibrant eyeshadows, jewel tones and futuristic metallics that make your eyes the focal point of your look.  Gone are the days of beige lids as blues, purples, greens and iridescent finishes that reflect personality and mood take over.

  • Expression Over Perfection

Beauty isn’t about looking “undone” anymore.  It’s about feeling like you.  Trends like messy makeup, sloppy smoky eyes and artful smudging celebrate creativity and individuality over meticulous blending and invisible makeup.

  • Bold Features Come First

Smoky eyes, halo lips, cool tone eyeliner and sculpted blushes are all trending in 2026.  These elements make your features stand out rather than blend into a neutral aesthetic.

  • Maximalism Over Minimalism

After years of curated minimalism, maximalist makeup (full color, glitter, intense liner and expressive textures) feels liberating.  Think heavily pigmented palettes, metallic finishes and creative application techniques that defy “barely there” looks.

Here are some specific makeup trends defining beauty in 2026:

  1. Messy/Expressive Eyes

Smoky eyes are making a comeback, but with intentional imperfection: smudges, blurs and lived-in liners that go beyond uniform, neat flicks.

  • Chrome & Metallic Finishes

Metallic eyeshadows and reflective liners bring a futuristic vibe to makeup, whether it’s subtle highlights or full-on, dramatic wet-look lids.

  • Bold Color Play

Color is no longer reserved for editorial looks, cobalt eyeliner, violet shadows and neon accents are all everyday makeup now.

  • Statement Lips

Deep berries, reds, and even unconventional shades like teal and plum are dominating where nude lips once reigned.

  • Blurred Techniques

Blurred lips and softly smudged edges create a lived-in feel that still looks intentional, like the soft, diffused finish of the clean girl look, but much more creative.

Ahead are 10 products to help ease you into this bold new era of makeup where color, creativity and statement looks replace polished minimalism without breaking the bank…

J. Cat Beauty Chaotic Element 21 Color Palette

A must-have eyeshadow palette perfect for mixing bold hues with unexpected pops of color that break free from neutral tones.

Glisten Cosmetics Spectra Lash

With over two dozen highly pigmented, vibrant, unique colors of this lengthening, tubing mascara available, you are sure to find one that expresses who you are.

Glisten Cosmetics Spectra Pencil

This multiuse pencil can be used on the eyes, lips and cheeks and comes in 10 bold shades that make the creative color options endless.

Urban Decay Face Bond Luminizer

This multi-purpose, skincare-infused, waterproof liquid highlighter gives a soft-focus, lit-from-within glow to face, eyes or body.  Available in four radiant, universally flattering shades with a precision dropper for easy application.

Tarte Maracuja Juicy Glow Highlight

A multi-use, cream highlighter pen that provides natural, blendable luminosity for “next-level” radiance.  Infused with skin-loving maracuja oil to brighten and smooth skin while the click-pen and angled tip make for mess-free, effortless application.

Moira Cosmetics Loveheat Cream Blush

This lightweight, hydrating cream blush melts into skin for a natural, buildable flush of color with a radiant finish.  Beneficial ingredients like vitamin E and rosehip oil nourish skin.  Available in over 20 vibrant shades to match any skin tone.

Daisique Souffle Color Pot

This popular K-beauty multi-use color balm for lips and cheeks has a soft, buildable formula with a pudding-like texture, heart-shaped compact and built-in mini brush.  Designed to create natural, fresh or bold looks in 15 long-lasting, blendable, distinct colors.

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip Cheek Stain

A cult-favorite, multi-tasking liquid stain that gives lips and cheeks a sheer, buildable flush of color that’s budge-proof.  The rose-tinted shade provides a healthy, blushed look that’s suitable for all skin tones and can be layered for more intensity.

If you are ready to move on from clean girl basics, here are some ways to use the above products to create looks that feel totally new for 2026:

  1.  Smoky Color Play

Don’t just stay with neutral boundaries. Blend purples, greens and metallics across your lids.  Start with a vibrant base, then smoke it out with a deeper shade for multidimensional depth.

  • Chromatic Accents

Chrome inner corners, liquid metal shadows or duo chrome pigments add futuristic light movement to the eyes.  You can even use them as highlighters outside the eye area for extra glow.

  • Graphic Expression

Skip precision for artistry. Smudge bold liners, blend shadow beyond the crease and embrace imperfect edges because intentionally messy can look stunning.

  • Coordinate Color Stories

Pair bold eyes with contrasting tones on lips or cheeks. Warm berry blush with violet lids is unexpected but striking.

  • Mix Textures

Matte shadows alongside shimmer highlights create contrast that deepens dimension, something minimalist makeup avoided.

The clean girl makeup era was beautiful while it lasted, but beauty is cyclical.  In 2026, we are saying goodbye to subdued cosmetics built on neutral palettes and predictable finishes.  Instead, makeup is joyful, expressive, bold and creative.  It’s a reflection of individuality, emotion and artistry.

If you have been feeling constrained by minimalist beauty trends, this is your year to shine.

Prebiotics & Probiotics Toothpaste – Fluoride Free

The Prebiotics & Probiotics Toothpaste is a gentle, fluoride free option designed to support a healthy oral microbiome. Formulated with hydroxyapatite, a mineral that helps strengthen and remineralize enamel, this toothpaste works to protect teeth while remaining kind to gums.

What makes this formula unique is its blend of prebiotics and probiotics, which help balance the good bacteria in your mouth rather than stripping everything away. The result is a clean, refreshed feeling that supports long term oral health. A light peppermint flavor adds a subtle freshness without being overpowering, making it comfortable for daily use.

Why it belongs in your routine: It offers natural enamel support and microbiome balance without fluoride, making it a great choice for those seeking a gentle, plant forward approach to oral care.

Fluoride Toothpaste with Hydroxyapatite – Fresh Mint

The smooth, nonabrasive texture cleans effectively without irritating sensitive teeth or gums. Fresh mint provides a crisp, invigorating finish that leaves your mouth feeling clean and polished after every brush. Like all Georganics products, it comes in recyclable aluminum packaging, helping reduce plastic waste in your daily routine.

Why it stands out: It pairs trusted fluoride protection with modern mineral technology for a balanced approach to enamel care and long lasting freshness.

A journey in every jar https://www.ecosmetics.com/a-journey-in-every-jar-blog/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 18:15:17 +0000 https://www.ecosmetics.com/?p=5714551

Unders Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg launched what would become the Fresh brand from a small apothecary-style store in Boston.  Their goal was to deliver beauty products that feel indulgent, smell inviting and harness the power of natural ingredients without sacrificing performance.

What began as hand-wrapped soaps evolved into a full skincare line rooted in ancient rituals and global botanicals.  The founders drew on traditions like sugars scrubs, sake-soaked baths and Umbrian clay masks and paired them with modern sensorial textures and scientific formulations.  By 2000, Fresh had caught the eye of the luxury conglomerate LVMH, which signaled the brand’s shift from niche to global prestige.

Fresh has always leaned into recognizable ingredients like soy protein, rose water, sake extract, Umbrian clay and black tea complex.  The brand not only uses them as ingredients but builds the story behind them.  For example, the iconic Fresh Soy Face Cleanser features amino-acid rich soy and cucumber extract, designed as a gentle but effective cleanser.

Using a Fresh product often feels less like a quick step and more like a self-care ritual, with mousse textures, floral scents, rich creams and elegant packaging.  The brand built itself not only on effectiveness but on the feel, the smell and the moment.  Even their tagline, “A Journey in Every Jar” highlights their commitment to creating high-quality, ingredient-driven, unique products that are like a journey of discovery for the user.

While Fresh emphasizes natural ingredients, it does not shy away from science.  Their site declares: “over 200 highly specialized experts from skin biologists and botanists to sensorial scientists take up to three years to thoughtfully formulate each of our products.

The skincare market today demands more than luxury: it demands transparency, sustainability, science-backing and digital access.  Fresh has taken concrete steps in each of these areas.

Even before “clean beauty” became a buzzword, Fresh was already working with natural ingredients and committing to ethical sourcing.  For example, the brand launched a sustainable platform called Forever Fresh around its 30th anniversary, with multiple benefits, including 100% recyclable or recycled packaging by 2023, net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and a partnership to support sourcing communities. One real-world example:  Fresh partnered with the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) to implement ethical sourcing in communities in Mauritius (for a tea-derived serum) demonstrating ingredient transparency and ecological responsibility.

Fresh continues to release new technologies while keeping its ingredient-led story.  The Kombucha essence is a good example of this by tapping into ferment-beauty trends while staying true to their botanical narrative.  The Black Tea Renewal line adds peptides and modern actives to the brand’s legacy of botanicals.

Originally rooted in Boston, Fresh now sells in more than 25 countries and has a presence in multiple retail channels, online and offline.  It also keeps up with digital marketing, influencer interest and global skincare trends.

While some Fresh products are in the premium price tier, they still offer “entry-luxury” options (like the Soy Cleanser) to allow new customers to access the brand experience.  This balance helps Fresh bring in younger users while retaining luxury consumers.

Is fresh for you?  Let’s look at the pros and cons:

Pros

  • A credible legacy with over 30 years in the beauty industry with integrity.
  • A natural + science framework that offers botanical ingredients wrapped in researched formulas.
  • An evolving brand that keeps up with sustainability, modern actives and clean sourcing.
  • A broad product range from gentle entry products to high-performance serums.

Cons

  • If you value minimalism with ultra-clean, no fragrance formulas, you may prefer something more understated.
  • Some products may have too rich a texture and fragrance for those with sensitive skin types.
  • The price point may be a factor for some.  $26 for a lip balm may seem expensive at first glance, but when you factor in that Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment not only moisturizes and protects lips, but plumps, smooths and adds color, it becomes clear that this multitasking gem does the work of several products you would otherwise have to purchase separately.

Fresh offers a wide range of luxury skincare, body care, lip care and fragrance products.  Here are a few of the brand’s standouts:

Fresh offers a wide range of luxury skincare, body care, lip care and fragrance products.  Here are a few of the brand’s standouts:

Soy Face Cleanser A gentle, pH-balanced gel facial cleanser that is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive.  Removes makeup, grime and impurities while hydrating and soothing the skin, helping to maintain the natural moisture barrier.  The formula contains soy proteins, aloe vera and cucumber extract to soften and smooth skin without stripping it of essential moisture.

Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence: A liquid facial essence designed to be the first step after cleansing to boost the effectiveness of the rest of your skincare routine. It uses fermented black tea (kombucha) to protect the skin, along with other ingredients like hyaluronic acid to provide deep hydration and improve texture. It works to increase radiance, smooth the skin’s surface and plump the complexion.

Black Tea Renewal Serum: A lightweight, milky serum that prevents signs of aging by visibly firming and smoothing skin while also providing deep hydration.  Its formula is powered by patented Mauritius black tea extract and includes other key ingredients like ocean kelp extract, niacinamide and ceramide NP to boost elasticity, even skin tone and support the protective barrier.  It is designed to be gentle enough for sensitive skin and offers retinol-like results without containing retinol.

Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream: A lightweight, daily facial moisturizer designed to provide long-lasting hydration to all skin types.  A blend of damask rose extract, hyaluronic acid and rosewater hydrate, soothe and strengthen the skin’s barrier. Time-release hydro patches integrated into the formula create a protective hydrating veil to help the skin attract and hold onto moisture for up to 72 hours, resulting in a smoother, softer and more supple complexion.

Sugar Lip Treatment: A 24hr hydrating line of tinted lip balms powered by sugar from beet root and sugar cane that offers sheer, buildable color with a smooth, buttery texture.  Available in 12 universally flattering shades (plus clear) that adjust to different skin tones.  In addition to the hydrating, conditioning, nourishing and plumping effects of sugar, cranberry and grapeseed oils help to smooth, soften and protect lips. Vitamins C and E provide antioxidant defense that shield lips from future damage.
